Miami, Fl USA
We are now half way through the Rolex Miami OCR regatta and stage two of the ISAF Sailing World Cup. We have completed 6 races over the last three days and I have moved up to first place overall with a 4 point lead over my team mate Paige Railey.
Yesterday the conditions were shifty with an 8-12 knot breeze. in the race committee started three races and I sailed well with finishes of 1, 2, 1. Today was a little different and we had one race in very light air. Paige got a fantastic start at the pin end and no body could touch her after that. She went on to win the race by a long way. I had a not so good start and found myself battling back from 19th at the top reach mark. I passed a lot of boats on the next downwind leg and upwind leg, but hit the second windward mark and when I could have rounded 6th, I ended up losing some boats. I finished the race in 7th, just enough to maintain the lead overall. You can see the results here: www.RolexMiamiOCR.org

Miami, Fl USA
Today started the second leg of the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Miami, Florida, also known as US SAILING's Rolex Miami OCR. There is a great turnout for the event with more than 440 sailors competing from 41 countries. In my fleet there are 42 boats from a very international field. We did two races today in a shifty 10-14kt breeze. Although I struggled up the first beats, I managed to pull back to two good finishes, a 2, 5. Leading our class is Jen Spaulding from Canada with a 1, 2. And tied on points with me is Emily Billing also from the USA with a 3, 4. We have three races scheduled for tomorrow with similar wind conditions forecasted. You can follow along with the results here: rmocr.ussailing.org

Plantation, Fla - January 6, 2009 - Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year and you are sticking to your resolutions. Its hard I know, and its only been six days.
I have some fantastic news I want to share with everyone. Earlier today US Sailing announced the winners of the Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year. I was named the winner of the Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year award. Terry Hutchinson, who like me graduated from Old Dominion University, was named the Rolex Yachtsman of the Year.
I was so excited when I heard the news. I was in the middle of moving house when I got the phone call from US Sailing President Jim Capron telling me I had won. It has been a long year but one of the best years of my life. This award tops it off. It's truly an honor to be nominated but to win this prestigious award and to be on the honor roll with so many amazing sailors is awesome!
The awards luncheon will be held at the New York Yacht Club in Manhattan at the end of February. Until then I will be training hard and sailing in a couple of regattas. My next event is the US Sailing Rolex Miami Olympic Classes Regatta at the end of January.
Up next though is a trip to Park City to be a keynote speaker at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Winter Meeting. From there I fly to San Diego to be a part of a panel discussion at the National Sailing Programs Symposium before I head back to Florida to start training with teammate Paige Railey.
Thank you all again for your support throughout this past year, it truly means a lot to me.
Sail hard, Anna
P.S. GO MONARCHS!!!!!
