The top ten boats sailed in the Medal Race, while the rest of us competed in a full-length normal race. The weather today was perfect, with the breeze beginning at around 10-12 knots and building to 12-15 knots. It was coming off the cliffs again, producing some puffy and shifty conditions. text/html 2008-06-28T23:56:18+01:00 http://www.annatunnicliffe.com http://www.annatunnicliffe.com/content/view/180/103/ Kiel, Germany June 28, 2008 I’m not really sure how to describe today’s racing at the Grade 1 Kieler Woche Regatta (http://www.kieler-woche.de/eng/englishdefault.htm). I was black flagged out of the first Laser Radial Race and sat it out. Then I led the fleet home in the second race only to be black-flagged. Finally, I finished second in the last race of the day. That means I won’t be competing in the Medal Race tomorrow, but at least I accomplished many of my little training goals. We were greeted again with a light rain in the morning, and a breeze that was forecast to go right and build as the front went through. The breeze did build and the rain stopped on our way out to the course. text/html 2008-06-27T22:41:23+01:00 http://www.annatunnicliffe.com http://www.annatunnicliffe.com/content/view/179/103/ Kiel, Germany June 27, 2008 There was dross amongst the gold today at the Grade 1 Kieler Woche Regatta (http://www.kieler-woche.de/eng/englishdefault.htm) today as 14 of the top competitors in the Laser Radial Gold Fleet, including me, were black-flagged for starting early in the last race of the day. Today was forecast to be a typical Kiel day, with wind and rain, but it didn’t really play out that way. We woke up to rain, and it rained all the way through the middle of our second race when the clouds started to break up and the sun started to shine. The weather gurus called for it to get windy once the clouds had broken up but unfortunately we came ashore after the second race. The long day proved tiring for all of us. I found myself fighting to get back into contention in all three races but places of 8-1-3 lifted me into fourth place overall. Today, the wind had reversed and was blowing off the cliffs, completely in the opposite direction from yesterday. It was shifty and blowing 13-15 knots with gusts into the high teems. Our blue fleet had the second start which provided an opportunity to watch and analyse the yellow fleet’s moves but each time my first beats didn’t play out as I’d planned. text/html 2008-06-25T15:47:35+01:00 http://www.annatunnicliffe.com http://www.annatunnicliffe.com/content/view/177/103/ Kiel, Germany June 26, 2008 The Grade 1 Kieler Woche Regatta (http://www.kieler-woche.de/eng/englishdefault.htm) started today in Kiel Germany. We were greeted with mostly sunny skies, temperatures in the mid 60s and an 8-10 knot northeasterly breeze. I was looking for a top level result today but it didn’t work out that way. However I got in some great practice digging out of unfavorable positions and finished the day in sixth overall which was a very good result, all things considered.
