Takapuna, Auckland, NZ The wind cooperated as forecast today and we sailed two breezy races to complete day two of the 2008 Laser Radial Women's World Championship off Takapuna Beach. I was pretty happy with two sixth place finishes but it turned out that the sixth in the second race didn’t count because the race committee had judged me and several other sailors over the start line early. My 6-OCS score puts me 63rd overall.
I have the comfort of knowing that I can eliminate the OCS when the discard rule takes effect in a couple of days but at the same time I can’t afford another score like this if I’m to do well in this championship regatta. Other than the start, my performance today was good and I enjoyed racing with a group of good sailors at the top of the yellow fleet that included Sari Multala from Finland, Sarah Blanck from Australia, Paige Railey from the USA, Sophie de Turckheim from France, Charlotte Dobson from Britain and Nathalie Brugger from Switzerland. You can find full results from this regatta at '08 Worlds Results. As always I want to acknowledge my sponsors Carmeuse and K-Swiss for their continued support of my campaign for the Olympic Gold Medal in Beijing 2008.
Sail hard,
