Detroit, MI
We made the final four today at the
2009 Detroit Cup at Bayview YC, in Detroit, MI. We started the
day with the quarter finals, and wrapped up with one race in the semi-finals.

We sat for a couple hours this morning
as the consolation round finished up, and then we got down to the quarterfinals.
We were racing Reuben Corbett from New Zealand. We won the first
race pretty handily, but then dropped the second race despite him having
a penalty. We learned a lot from our mistakes in that race, and
came back to win the third and deciding race.

After coming in for a lunch break and
letting the 5th through 8th-placed-boats round wrap up, we headed back out
for the semis. Being the top seed we got to choose whom we went
up against in the semis. After having tried to figure out in the
past who to race, based on records, and having it back fire on us, we decided
that we would just pick the fourth seed, who turned out to be Keith
Swinton from Australia.

We finished one race in the semi finals. Unfortunately we had a bit of a bad start and had to play catch up. Although we caught
up a lot on the second lap, but it wasn’t quite enough. We will
go out tomorrow first thing, and wrap up the semis. The series is a first-to-2-points
series, so we have our work cut out for us, but we are hungry for it.
You can check the results at the regatta website. I would like to thank Carmeuse and Gill for their sponsorship of our team for this event. Sail hard, Anna |
