January 9, 2010 Miami, FL Day two of racing at the USSTAG Qualifier wrapped up today here in Miami. Our team had another good day and managed to finish the two round robins in the lead heading into the semi-finals. We will face Katie Lovell in the semi’s and the other semi’s will be between Sally Barkow and Genny Tulloch.

I apologize about no report yesterday. I wrote one, but then forgot to
attach it to the email for posting and it never made it out. But yesterday was an excellent day for
our team. We won all six races and
had one very exciting race against Sally, which came down to half a boat length
between us at the finish.
This morning we were greeted with the high temperature of
the day at 50 degrees, decreasing during the rest of the day, and rain, increasing throughout the
day. But the racing was fun as the
wind gave us completely different conditions from yesterday. The 15-20kts provided a nice chop and
gusty conditions for good racing.
Our day started a bit hectic when we locked our extra gear
and car keys inside the car. Being in a
hurry, we tried to get the Fire Department to open the car, but the guy didn’t
have the correct equipment after he showed up. So we left the dock with just a little bit of food and water, and fortunately, it
held us through the day no problem.
We had one loss today to Genny on the last race. We gave
ourselves a penalty in the pre-start and then made a big mistake with 20
seconds to go and so virtually handed the race to Genny.
But it was another lesson learned, and we are more than happy it happened before
we head into the semi’s tomorrow.
Racing tomorrow starts at 10am when we will complete the semi’s
and finals. The forecast is for a little more breeze and chilly temperatures, so we’re off to get some fortifying food and a good night's rest.
