No Wind Plus No Racing, Result: Counting Sheep PDF  | Print |  E-mail

July 13, 2010
Largs, Scotland

With a promising forecast, the 2010 Laser Radial Worlds' race committee sent us all out at 11am this morning for a noon start.  There was breeze on the course, but it was 90 degrees off from the forecasted direction, but it did look as if it would hold for a while.  Unfortunately, just as the race committee began to get things underway to start a race, the wind faded and the postponement flag went back up to delay the racing.

No Sailing So We Admired The Scenery

The breeze was supposed to come in late morning/early afternoon, but as time ticked away, it didn't look promising.  The fleets sat on the water for five hours waiting for the breeze.  Unfortunately, at 4pm, just as the race committee cancelled racing for the day, the breeze started to roll down the mountain and out onto the race course.  The breeze filled in at a nice 10kts, but it was too late to turn back the decision.  Instead, we are to start racing at 10am tomorrow morning.  The forecast has wind in it, and a lot at that, so hopefully it won't be too much and we can get in three good races.

Since there was no sailing, nothing much exciting happened today.  We entertained ourselves in the coach boat for the entire time by doing numerous silly things.  One time-killing activity was to count the sheep on the hills, and another was to try and figure out which animals we all look like.  It was quite funny to hear each person thoughts.  The animals that were suggested ranged from camel, snake, rat, koala, to Alvin the chipmunk.

The points are close in the regatta, and hopefully tomorrow's racing will  make a difference in the overall standings.  I am very much looking forward to doing as many races as possible so that I can try and improve my standing. You can check the results at the regatta website.

We would like to thank Carmeuse and Trinity Yachts for their continued  support of our campaign for the 2012 Olympics in London.  We would also like to thank US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics (USSTAG) and its sponsors for their support.

Sail Hard,

Anna
