We had one race this morning against Don Wilson to make the top eight. There was a tight fight between four teams for three spots. We had a good start to the left of him and were able to just pinch him off right before layline. We both tacked over to port tack, with him to leeward and us to windward. We were slowly inching forward on him, but he luffed us at the right time and was able to slow us enough and get around the mark ahead of us. Downwind, we were quite fast and sailed the shifts well to squeak inside of them at the leeward mark and from there, went on to win the race. This win put us into the final eight.

Racing started shortly thereafter, with our first race against William Tiller (NZL).

We had an even start with him but he caught a shift up the beat that we didn't get and he extended a few lengths from us at the top mark. Again, we had great speed downwind and were able to pull in the distance and rounded right on his tail. Upwind was a similar story where he pulled out a lead in the shifty conditions. But again downwind, we pulled back and just lost the race by a few feet right at the finish line.

From there we had three more races before the storms blew in and cancelled racing for the day. We had a 1-2 record in those races. Racing continues tomorrow (Sunday) morning at 9am. The forecast is for 15-25mph winds which should make for some more interesting racing since most of our racing has been done in 12 kts or less.
You can follow the racing live on the regatta website: http://chicagocup.org/ and also check out the results.
