Sheboygan, WI
Racing started on time this morning and ten flights were sailed at the 2011 Buddy Melges Challenge. We started our regatta well by winning all 6 races to finish the day with a 6-0 overall record.
Of
the 16 teams sailing, all teams got four races in, with some teams
getting in up to 6 races. We started racing as the rain came in which
killed the wind and left a nice slop for us to fight upwind. We had a
good first race in these conditions. After that, the wind improved. We
had good racing all day long. The girls did a great job with managing
the waves, keeping the boat going fast and finding the best wind around
the course.
Most of our races we won with a couple length lead
after managing to extend on second beats. We have a lot of racing left,
but we are happy with how we sailed day 1. There are nine more races
in this first round before the quarterfinal round starts. We have three
races scheduled for tomorrow unless the race committee get ahead of
schedule and then we will do more. With live tracking continuing
tomorrow, you can check it out as well as the results on the regatta website: http://www.sailsheboygan.org/BMC_2011.php.
We would very much like to thank our Title Sponsor, Maclaren, our Gold Level Sponsors 11th Hour Racing and Laser Performance, and our Bronze Level Sponsors Carmeuse, Trinity Yachts, and Chicago Match Race Center for their continued support of our campaign for the 2012 Olympic Games.
